Latvia hit record cold temps on Feb 2nd Morning at -34°C official and I got a call on the way to the lake that their car's showing -35°C. The Volvo 940 started right up in the AM. The lake surface has 'packed' snow that's compressed over the last month, creating a highly resistive but slick (ice) surface, that's difficult to dig into with a snow shovel while tires have poor traction on the ice making it difficult to move past 100km/h (60mph) ground speed. The packed snow creates massive resistance-- In order to move properly I held the 940 at redline for 7 minutes in 3rd, then 30 second break and another 7 minutes, repeated this 10x. About 65 liters of fuel in total on the lake with distance of approx 70km, while odometer showed ~140km driven (tires were spinning faster). Weather Temp source: https://www.weatherdiary.uk/2026/02/0... Lyrics: In your life... at some point... you will come across old Volvos. It is very important... that you buy every one of them. These red bricks of Swedish steel, the 940, built to outlast time itself. Rear-wheel drive heart, whispering perfect slides across frozen lakes. Tight turning circle, carving graceful arcs through endless white. Thirty years and more, still turning over at minus thirty, first crank, no complaint, just loyal fire. Turbo glow in the dark, a quiet promise of power when you need it. Safety cage wrapped around joy, so you can push harder, smile wider. Vast space inside for everything that matters— gear, friends, dreams, dogs, spare parts. Simple enough that your own hands can keep it alive forever. Practical king, yet pure driving bliss. Watch it kick up clouds of sparkling snow on a brilliant sunny day, cold enough to burn the lungs, bright enough to warm the soul. Endless drifts on a frozen lake, red body dancing, tires singing, white powder exploding like celebration. Smiles per gallon- infinite. Freedom in every throttle lift, every opposite-lock correction, every moment you let it slide just because you can. This is not just driving. This is flight on ice. This is proof that simple things, built honestly, can still set you completely free. So when you see that old red 940... don’t think twice. Buy it. Drive it. Drift it. And live.
