I connect a Rheem Gen 4 heat pump water heater to Home Assistant using ESP-Home EcoNET and a ATOM device. This allows you to monitor and control the water heater locally, without using the cloud. You get faster operations and a lot more data than the EcoNET cloud integration. The project is here: https://github.com/esphome-econet/esp... I ordered the Atom and serial port from M5Stack and used an old telephone wire for connection. Home Assistant ESP-Home add-on has everything needed to compile and upload the new firmware to the device. This was my first time using ESP Home for real and it worked very well. The new data coming from the water heater and added control is excellent. I also have a Moen Flo and a hot water re-circulation pump attached to a Zigbee plug. Overall, I have a lot of control over my house water system. For example, I will be able to automatically turn off the hot water heater when the Moen Flo does a water shutoff. 00:00 - Introduction 02:41 - Unboxing of ATOM and serial mount 03:58 - Connecting the phone/serial cable 05:03 - Existing ECONET cloud integration 06:07 - Esphome-econet github page 06:35 - Testing the device and serial port 07:54 - Installing Home Assistant ESP-HOME add-in 09:08 - Creating a new ESP-HOME device 10:44 - Edit device configuration 12:35 - Adding WIFI SSID and password 13:23 - Configuration file clean up 13:56 - Using Chrome for serial connection 15:11 - Fixing my invalid configuration 15:53 - Manual download to check compile 16:36 - Uploading firmware to the device 18:13 - Device connects over WIFI for the first time 19:11 - Looking at the new device 19:32 - Connecting to the water heater 19:57 - Integration once connected 20:49 - Note of the device light 21:32 - New control and conclusion Original GitHub request for this video: https://github.com/esphome-econet/esp...
