https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/topics/... Virginia's Emergency Substantial Risk Order (ESRO) law, commonly referred to as a “red flag” law, enables the Fairfax County Police Department to investigate and seek a court order to temporarily remove guns from individuals who have been determined an imminent danger to themselves or others. ESROs prevent these individuals from purchasing, possessing or transporting firearms, while providing procedural safeguards to ensure that no firearm is removed without due process. County and community leaders shared information and impactful stories of the ESRO law’s use to prevent gun violence and issued a call-to-action for the community to contact authorities who can act quickly to prevent tragedies. This event served as a kickoff to a sustained county and community messaging campaign. Speakers included: • Jeffrey McKay, Chairman, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors • Rodney Lusk, Lee District Supervisor, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors • Amanda Paris, Domestic Violence Detective, Fairfax County Police • James Walkinshaw, Braddock District Supervisor, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors • Angela Yeboah, J.D., Advocacy Services Program Manager, Fairfax County Domestic and Sexual • Violence Services • Belinda Massaro, Mobile Crisis Unit Manager, Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board • Paul Friedman, Executive Director, Safer Country • Steve Descano, Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney Get more information online at https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/topics/... ** If you know or someone who show signs of being a threat to themselves or others, request an ESRO by calling the police non-emergency line at 703-691-2131.
