Light is a messenger. A carrier. Traveling far, and fast, through lonely stretches, here and there swaying and bending as the fabric upon which it runs bends and sways. Was inspired during a late-night rabbit hole by this abstract from a 2025 research paper: "Exoplanets classified as super-Earths are commonly observed on short period orbits, close to their host stars, but their abundance on wider orbits is poorly constrained. Gravitational microlensing is sensitive to exoplanets on wide orbits. We observed the microlensing event OGLE-2016-BLG-0007, which indicates an exoplanet with a planet-to-star mass ratio roughly double the Earth-Sun mass-ratio, on an orbit longer than Saturn's. We combine this event with a larger sample from a microlensing survey to determine the distribution of mass ratios for planets on wide orbits. We infer there are ~0.35 super-Earth planets per star on Jupiter-like orbits. The observations are most consistent with a bimodal distribution, with separate peaks for super-Earths and gas giants. We suggest that this reflects differences in their formation processes." ~0.35 super-Earth planets per star. I don't know anything about the validity of the study, but that's lovely to think about. This is just two tracks using the Moog Little Phatty - I think the most overlooked and underrated Moog synth of the last twenty years. Are there Moogs with more knobs? Yes. Are any able to achieve the nuanced heat of the LP's Overload circuit? I don't think so. It just sounds so beautiful, any time I turn it on I'm going somewhere. Here the LP is going into a bunch of stuff, all in the box, including reverb (UA Capitol Chambers), Delay (Valhalla Delay), saturation (Felt Brut) and some other stuff. I record a lot of writing and experimenting that never sees the light of day, but I think there's something in here. I may try to turn this into a longer piece.
