It was an ode to mother-daughter relationships, and she continues her exploration of strong female characters with an adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott classic, "Little Women". It's the inspiring story of four sisters as they come of age in the aftermath of America's civil war, and is a project Gerwig fought to write and direct.
