Los Alumnos de San Juan performance at Parang on D Hill in Paramin Trinidad 🇹🇹 Parranda on the Hill in Paramin is an annual Christmas-season event in Trinidad and Tobago. It’s a festive celebration featuring traditional Venezuelan-style Parranda music, which is popular in Paramin due to the community’s French and Spanish heritage. During the event, live bands perform on the hillside with cuatro, guitars, maracas, and drums, and visitors enjoy food, dancing, and the scenic views of the mountains and the city lights below. Los Alumnos de San Juan began in 1986 as a school band at San Juan Secondary School in Trinidad, driven by a charitable spirit to perform for children's homes, evolving under lead singer Alicia Jaggasar and others into a dominant force in parang, winning numerous National Parang Competitions and blending tradition with modern sounds like steelpan and keyboards, becoming known as the "Queen of Parang" for Jaggasar and a national treasure for their musical excellence and community involvement. Early Days & Foundation (Mid-1980s) Origins: The group started in 1986 at San Juan Secondary School. Charitable Roots: Their initial focus was performing charity shows at schools and children's homes, forming their core charitable identity.
