Tungjoy (Veymai) village in Senapati District, Manipur celebrates its annual Glory Day, locally known as Veymai Teithe, under the powerful motto Avei-Atro (Glory). Observed every year on January 4 and 5, Tungjoy Glory Day is more than a cultural festival, it is a reaffirmation of faith, unity, moral values, environmental responsibility, and ancestral heritage. The celebration marks the conclusion of the Thounii (New Year) festival and welcomes the arrival of spring and agricultural life. The event features rich traditional performances including cultural dances, cotton spinning, folk songs, work chants, war cries, and blessings by elders, symbolising guidance and strength for future generations. Leaders and elders emphasised: Unity among the Tenyimi people Peaceful coexistence and forgiveness Preservation of forests, water, and the Barak River The responsibility of youth to pursue education without forgetting their roots Tungjoy Glory Day stands as a living example of how culture, faith, and nature are deeply interconnected, a celebration where tradition is not just remembered, but lived.
