My last visit to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway was at Easter, primarily to see the newly-overhauled LMS Fairburn 4MT 2-6-4T 42073 in service (see seperate video). Whilst there, i noticed that Bagnall 0-6-0ST 2996 'Victor' was almost ready to re-enter service after being bought for the L&HR in 2009 and overhauled. Although i had originally planned to visit the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway on my way back up from my trip to the Severn Valley Railway, an urgent call form work diverted me to the Lake District, enabling me to see 'Victor' in steam. 2996 is unique is several ways. Built by W.G. Bagnall in 1951, it was one of the most powerful industrial steam locomotives in the world, and worked alongside it's sister, 'Vulcan', for the Steel Company of Wales. Both engines were preserved by the West Somerset Railway in 1973, and worked there for many years before bing sold on. 2994 'Vulcan' went to the North Tyneside Railway, and 2996 spent time at the Strathspey Railway and Great Central Railway (Nottingham). At Haverthwaite, 2996 is the newest member of the locomotive fleet and is the only engine to face south, rather than uphill. During the October Half-Term, the railway held their 'Witches and Wizards Week', culminating in an evening 'Ghost Train' on Hallowe'en Night. 'Victor' is seen in this video arriving from Lakeside, running round, and departing from Haverthwaite at 15:10. I also captured the return journey, which is seen at Newby Bridge Halt. I hope you all enjoy the video. Feel free to comment and subscribe!
