In eastern Oregon, a massive volume of lava recently erupted, covering an area of 27 square miles. And, such an eruption is likely to one day happen again in the future in the same general area (likely distant future many thousands of years from now). This is the story of the little-known Jordan Craters volcano, whose youngest eruption in 1238 BCE formed a vast lava field in a mildly explosive sequence.
