Join us as we take a tour around the beautiful parish of Tetbury in the Cotswolds in England. We spent a Sunday morning visiting this historic Market parish, taking in the views and admiring the 16th and 17th century architecture that remains practically untouched since the time it was built. With a population of approximately 5,500, although small it is still the second largest town in the Cotswolds, coming second to the beautiful Cirencester that is just down the road about 10 miles away. With the stunning Market House that sits elegantly in the centre of this once prosperous Wool town, each street that veers away greets you with views of beautifully preserved Cotswold Stone buildings. The actual Market House dates back to 1655 and even to this day still shelters the markets traders beneath it. With different types of markets stalls being present, pending the day you visit. With Prince Charles being a resident of the nearby Highgrove house, it does tend to attract quite a few visitors. But do not think that that is the only reason to visit Tetbury. It is famous for it's stunning flowers and plants that line the streets, all catered for by the local residents. And as a result of their efforts the town has been a finalist in the 'Britain in Bloom' competition on a couple of occasions and has won the regional award multiple times. With the stunning Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin being a stones throw away from the town centre, there is plenty of history to be found in a 15 minute stroll. Cafes, Antique shops and independent boutiques adorn each side of the high street, all of which have windows that result in you tweaking your neck as you walk by and then end up window shopping. From famous cheeses to woollen rugs and leather goods, if you are some thing to decorate your house or fill your stomach, you will find it here, and probably no where else. In fact the only familiar shop we did see was a Coop, no, you will not find a Gregs or Subway in this quaint town. With the average house price currently sitting £431,000 it is a place that not many could afford to move to, and as it is not that big, you could find yourself in a bidding war of you do fancy buying one of the local properties. But, that does not stop you visiting. With a few small car parks tucked away on either side of the town as well as some just past the Market House, there is ample opportunity to cruise by and stop for a brisk walk around. If you do fancy visiting this part of the country, make sure you also visit Cirencester and Malmesbury, which is a mere 5 miles away. Both towns also offer stunning walk arounds and opportunities to view historic and well maintained buildings.
