A panel discussion on the historical and legal context of the Palestinian struggle for liberation against settler colonialism. Panellists: Associate Professor Noura Erakat is a human rights attorney and an Associate Professor at Rutgers University, New Brunswick in the Department of Africana Studies and the Program in Criminal Justice. Her research interests include human rights law, humanitarian law, national security law, refugee law, social justice, and critical race theory. Noura is also a Co-Founding Editor of Jadaliyya, an electronic magazine on the Middle East that combines scholarly expertise and local knowledge. She is the author of “Justice for Some: Law and the Question of Palestine” published in 2019. Tareq Baconi is the president of the board of Al-Shabaka, a Palestinian Policy Network, launched in 2010, as the first and only independent, transnational Palestinian think tank. He is the former senior analyst for Israel/Palestine and Economics of Conflict at the International Crisis Group that is based in Ramallah. He is the author of “Hamas Contained: The Rise and Pacification of Palestinian Resistance” published in 2017.
