During World War II, Britain needed a submachine gun fast—and the result was the brutally simple Sten submachine gun. Designed at the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield by Reginald V. Shepherd and Harold J. Turpin, the Sten was never meant to be pretty. Built from stamped metal and tubes, it fired the widely available 9×19mm Parabellum, making it easy to manufacture and supply across occupied Europe. More than four million were produced, arming British forces and resistance fighters alike—and the design proved effective enough that Germany created its own copy, the MP 3008. Cheap, crude, and massively produced, the Sten became one of the most influential submachine guns of the war and a symbol of how simple engineering can reshape a battlefield. ►Disclaimer◄ Some of the footage used in this video is not original content produced by Rifle Ready.
