WGM Qiyu Zhou shares the journey towards the fulfilment of her dream of becoming a World Youth Chess Champion in this inspiring talk at the Jamaica International Chess Festival. For more on the Chess Festival, please see http://www.jamaicachessfestival.com WGM Qiyu Zhou is a Canadian Chess prodigy who holds the titles of Woman Grandmaster (WGM) and FIDE Master (FM), and as at the date of this talk attends school full-time in the International Baccalaureate program in Grade 12. Qiyu learned chess at the age of four in France before moving to Finland where she was the U10 Finnish Youth Chess Champion (Open) for five consecutive years. In 2008 she won the silver medal at the U8 Female World Youth Chess Championship and later moved to Canada. Qiyu has been the U12 and U14 Female Canadian Youth Chess Champion in 2012 and 2013. She was the U14 Female World Chess Champion in 2014 and the U18 North American Youth Chess Champion in 2015. In 2016, Qiyu became the Canadian Women’s Chess Champion, and thereafter represented Canada at the Women’s World Championships in 2017. She has also represented Canada at two World Chess Olympiads, in 2014 and 2016.
