The hypothalamus produces and releases GnRH into the pituitary portal system, where it stimulates the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary gland. FSH and LH have different roles in males and females. In females, FSH stimulates the growth and development of ovarian follicles, which contain the immature egg cells. LH triggers ovulation, which is the release of a mature egg from the ovary, and promotes the formation of the corpus luteum, which produces progesterone. In males, FSH stimulates the growth and development of the seminiferous tubules in the testes, which produce sperm. LH stimulates the production of testosterone by the interstitial cells of the testes. GnRH is regulated by feedback mechanisms that involve the sex hormones, particularly estrogen and testosterone. In females, estrogen exerts negative feedback on the hypothalamus and pituitary, which decreases the secretion of GnRH, FSH, and LH during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. In males, testosterone exerts negative feedback on the hypothalamus and pituitary, which decreases the secretion of GnRH, FSH, and LH. Abnormalities in the secretion or function of GnRH, FSH, and LH can lead to a variety of endocrine disorders, such as hypogonadism, polycystic ovary syndrome, and precocious puberty. These disorders can be diagnosed and treated using various hormonal therapies, such as gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists and antagonists, which modify the secretion of GnRH, FSH, and LH. #endocrinephysiology #endocrinesystem #endocrineglands #fmge #fmgevideos #rapidrevisionfmge #fmgejan2023 #mbbslectures #nationalexitexam #nationalexittest #neetpg #usmlepreparation #usmlestep1 #fmge #usmle #drgbhanuprakash #medicalstudents #medicalstudent #medicalcollege #neetpg2023 #usmleprep
