Wilburt "Red" Prysock was born on February 2, 1926 in Greensboro, North Carolina. His earliest claim to fame came from being a part of Tiny Bradshaw's band. Upon leaving Tiny Bradshaw's band following Tiny's first of a series of strokes that eventually lead to his passing, Red Prysock formed his own group and signed with Mercury records, where they began to have hits starting in 1954. In the 1960's, Red and his band were frequently the backing band for his brother Arthur Prysock's recordings. Red passed away from a heart attack in Chicago, Illinois on July 19, 1993.
