The Lost City Walking track was opened towards the end of December 2024 and showcases the spectacular Lost City precinct with the excellent 3km (roughly) each way from a new South Lost City Lookout to the existing North Lost City Lookout. Start of the new road to the South Lost City carpark and lookout: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ecdPPEyCvcVJP... At the time of filming in December 2024, there was still quite a bit of development to be finished, particularly on the North Side of the Lost City. (The traditional way of accessing the Lost City previously.) A newly upgraded road, car park and lookout has been built on the South-side of the Lost City, temporary toilets are in place, and picnic tables at the lookout. Yet to come are permanent toilets, a better car park, an information board, and a shelter. When driving up from Lithgow, or the Zig Zag railway, all new signage has been installed to direct you to the newly created South-side car park and lookout area. This is where we parked and started from. The walk from the car park down to the new South Lost City Lookout is an easy 400mtrs, there are a number of picnic benches down here and information signs. It is at this new lookout that the walk starts/finishes. There are two options for walking to the North Lost City Lookout area, the Grade 3 track is the longer of the two options, but takes you past another of the old water supply dams. The other shorter but possibly more challenging option is the grade 4 Historical Miner's Link Track, this takes you past an old mine site and a waterfall before joining the grade 3 track on the valley floor. The walk crosses the creek multiple times on sandstone stepping stones as it winds its way towards the second and larger of the two water supply dams you pass and then finally up onto the top and across to the North Lost City Lookout area. More development will be done on the North side in the next 6 months, with the project as a whole due to be completed in mid 2025. There is not a huge amount of shade on the walk, so, if doing it in summer, cover up, wear a hat, plenty of sunscreen and take plenty of water, we really do not suggest you drink from the creek at all. This is an exposed and hot walk in summer. Allow yourself a few hours to do the return walk comfortably. National parks have put a lot of time and effort into building the amazing upgrade to the area, and it shows. It looks to have been a massive effort to install these new tracks, as well as build the associated infrastructure that goes with it. Anyone with medium fitness should not have too many issues completing this walk, keep in mind, you will normally need to return the way you came to return to your vehicle. We took the Grade 3 track on the outbound leg and returned via the Grade 4 Historical Miner's Link Track on the return.
