I just did an amazing river cruise down the Rhine river with Viking. The cruise started in Basel, Switzerland and we spent a few days in the Swiss city before we embarked on the cruise. We stayed at the very cool Pullman Basel Europe hotel. The hotel, part of Accor, focuses on both business and leisure travelers. We loved that it was only a five minute walk from the Rhine and the old town area, also a two minute walk from Messeplatz and Basel's congress center. We took the bus and tram to get there from the airport, you use your hotel confirmation as your bus / tram ticket. Guests get a Basel Card when they check-in, this gives you free use of public transportation and discounts on museum admission and other tourist activities.
