Some people ask if working horses can possibly compare with tractors - and the answer in most cases is no, not for normal farming jobs like mowing and baling. But maybe the question should be - do they compare favourably with people wielding spades and forks? The answer is most definitely yes! Horses are incredibly strong and can and do an excellent job. They also do far less damage to the soil than a tractor does - and they actually like working in a team. So many people have horses and only use them for riding -- how silly is that! Our horses like going for rides but they also pull logs, ploughs, drills, harrows, carts and carriages. And they provide most of the muck we use in the field and garden. We couldn't do without them.
