Chinese President Visits Wildlife Protection Base in Zimbabwe

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan visited a wildlife protection base in Harare, Zimbabwe, on Wednesday. Xi inquired about the construction of the base and conditions of wildlife in the base. Stressing that wildlife is an important part of life on earth and natural eco-system, Xi said the wildlife's living conditions are closely connected with mankind's sustainable development. The Zimbabwean government and people have made unremitting efforts in protecting wildlife, he said. Xi said that China attaches great importance to the cause of wildlife protection. China has achieved great results in strengthening protection of wildlife habitats, improving wildlife reproduction, and combating illegal trade of wildlife and products made of wild animals including elephant, said Xi. China has worked hard to increase public awareness of wildlife protection and civil organizations have been actively engaged in the course. The two factors have led to a growing number of Chinese people who are devoted to wildlife protection, said Xi. China has been performing international obligations and actively cooperated with international community in wildlife protection. Xi said wildlife protection is a key area of cooperation between China and Zimbabwe. China will continue to help Zimbabwe improve its capacity in wildlife protection through providing assistance and swapping experiences. Xi is on a two-day state visit to Zimbabwe.
