Taking a various forms of transportation to the Palace of Versailles meant walking, the metro, a bus, and then a high-speed train just to reach the expansive acreage of the palace. Stepping onto the grounds felt surreal as it was so HUGE and obviously old. Once inside, we were immediately overwhelmed by the scale of royal excess. We saw stunning 16th and 17th-century sculptures, paintings, and artifacts. After walking through the Queen’s and King’s “apartments” we came to the amazing Hall of Mirrors. It's impossible to fully capture the endlessly long, glittering gallery. It wasn't just beautiful, either as this is the room where the Treaty of Versailles was signed, officially ending WWI. Our time ended seeing the Gardens of Versailles from a distance, but by then we were tired. If we’d been up to it there are other palaces to see on the property along with the massive Grand Canal where the royals would sail. The entire visit was an incredible, although exhausting ~ a journey through French royalty, art, and history.
