The 2025 edition of the Digital Built Environment Technologies Showcase & Awards (DiBETSA) was hosted by the University of Johannesburg’s Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in the Built Environment (CARINBE) in collaboration with the South African Institution of Civil Engineering’s Project Management and Construction Division (SAICE PMCD). Held on 22 October 2025 at UJ’s School of Tourism and Hospitality, Bunting Campus, the event brought together industry leaders, researchers, government agencies, and technology providers to celebrate digital innovation in construction and infrastructure delivery. Themed “Digital Transitioning in the Built Environment,” the showcase highlighted how emerging technologies — from Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Digital Twins to Artificial Intelligence (AI), drones, and Augmented/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) — are reshaping infrastructure development in Africa. The event was borne out of the need to drive the uptake of digital project delivery as a means to building infrastructure better. It sought to demonstrate the practical value and measurable benefits of digitalisation by showcasing real projects that have successfully adopted digital tools and workflows, helping others see their transformative impact. Through this approach, DiBETSA 2025 invited projects to showcase, technology vendors to exhibit and demonstrate digital solutions, and celebrated organisations that have embraced digital project delivery as the new benchmark for efficiency, collaboration, and sustainability in the built environment.
