Hey everyone! In today's lesson I'm going to show you how to play "I Want to Hold Your Hand" by The Beatles. This song is a simple strummer with a little bit of a twist. It requires us to play a chord-based riff for a couple measures, which might seem difficult but is actually pretty simple - and for the amount of effort you put into it it's sure to impress! --- Having trouble with the basics? You'll want to check out my Beginner Guitar Course! More information here: https://goodguitarist.com/beginner-gu... And there's my FREE eBOOK (which is free for all subscribers!) - You can use it to help you build a solid foundation: chords, switching, progressions, riffs, techniques... everything it takes to be a "good guitarist." You can find it here: http://goodguitarist.com/learn-rhythm... (You'll also find my Lead eBook there, too!) --- The lesson begins with the intro, which is based on two chord shapes: D and Cadd9. This whole part hinges on the fact that you can switch between these two chords quickly + accurately. It's an easy enough switch but we work it out just to make sure that we can do it precisely and after that, we just fill in some rhythm and that's it! Next we move on to the verse... sort of. This song doesn't really have a verse and chorus per se, it's sort of predates that idea. For this type of song it makes more sense to call it an "A-section" and a "B-section." The A-section gives us the main melody, the hook and the B-section provides us with some contrast. (A little bit of trivia: The Beatles would often call the B-section "the middle eight" as in the eight bars of the song in the middle of it. Even though sometimes it was more than eight measures long.) Either way, the A-section is just some chords and a strumming pattern. There are a couple exceptions and we work through it all to make sure you understand how to get through it, from start-to-finish, and even more importantly, how to practice it. Then we take a look at the B section. It is quite simple too - just some chords and a strumming pattern. The one tricky part is, at the very end we have to incorporate that intro part again - it's not just something that we played during the beginning of the song it's something that we're going to play a few times throughout the song which is why we learn it first. I like to focus on the trickiest part of the song while we're fresh, and it's just smooth sailing after that :) Chords used in this song: G, C, D, E minor, A minor, B7, D minor. And as for rhythm it uses the most common strumming pattern in the world with a couple changes in a couple spots. I hope you enjoy this lesson if you need any help don't forget to check out money resources I'll see you soon! -James --- http://goodguitarist.com/i-want-to-ho... / goodguitarist / goodguitarist
