Session Notes: I had two solid sessions using the larger 540 F4 GP Wahoo front wing, though the sustained wind was relatively light. At top speed, I felt I needed just a bit more downforce. In hindsight, I should have moved the mast base one centimeter forward for the next session. Instead, I switched to the smaller 463 front wing for the third session. After the raincloud cleared, the wind picked up much stronger than forecasted. I rigged the 7.4 GA Vapor, but should have gone with the 6.0. It takes about seven minutes to wade out, and the wind kept building during that time. I should have recognized the need for a smaller sail and returned to shore to re-rig, but I decided to continue anyway, hoping to make a couple of passes to test the setup and ride it out until the wind settled closer to the forecast. Immediately, I regretted not moving the mast base another centimeter forward. I had Otto, a local board repair expert, install new Chinook sailing foot block mounts 1.75" further forward, significantly improving my ability to generate downforce on the foil. Still, I struggled to maintain control at board speed over 20 knots—resorting to exaggerated hips-forward body positions to avoid foiling out. Above 22 knots, the board became noticeably unstable with much wobble. I returned to shore as quickly as possible to re-rig and switched to my fin board setup to catch the tail end of the short-lived wind event. I then rode a Tabou Manta 81 with the 8.7 GA Vapor and salvaged the day.
