Big Push Initiative: Pres Mahama breaks grounds for nationwide construction projects | News Desk

President John Dramani Mahama has officially broken ground on his government’s ambitious Big Push Initiative, a major infrastructure programme aimed at transforming Ghana’s road network and boosting connectivity nationwide. The government has earmarked GH₵13.8–14 billion to kickstart the plan, which includes road construction, highway dualisation, bridge rehabilitation, expressway development, and related infrastructure. Key projects include the Kumasi Western Bypass, rehabilitation of bridges (like Buipe, Daboya, Dambai, Yapei), major highways such as Accra–Kumasi, Accra–Takoradi, Accra–Aflao, and a Greater Accra Outer Ring Road to decongest Accra. Mahama has also promised timely payments to contractors (within two weeks of certificate submission) and upfront mobilisation funds to get work moving swiftly.
