Every great adventure has a turning point… and this episode brings one of the most unexpected moments of our entire Gilgit-Baltistan motorcycle journey. In Episode 20, riding the Power Sultan 250cc, we set out with high spirits toward our dream destination — Skardu. The plan was simple: ride deeper into the heart of the Karakoram and explore one of Pakistan’s most legendary valleys. But the mountains had other plans. On the way, we received unfavourable news about the current political situation and civil unrest, forcing us to make the tough decision to halt our journey and spend the night in Skardu, then turn back toward Gilgit to reassess and plan a safer route for our next destination. With limited battery power, we couldn’t capture much footage on the way to Skardu — but fate gave us a second chance. On our return ride, during daylight, we were finally able to record the raw beauty of the rugged mountains, deep valleys, and winding roads between Skardu and Gilgit. The sunlight revealed the true scale and majesty of the Karakoram, turning our setback into one of the most visually stunning rides of the series. This episode is not just about riding — it’s about adaptability, brotherhood, and respecting the realities of travel in remote regions. Historically, Gilgit was a crucial stop on ancient trade routes connecting Central Asia, China, and South Asia. It later became a strategic point during the British era due to its proximity to key mountain passes. Today, Gilgit serves as the main gateway for travelers heading toward Hunza, Skardu, and the Karakoram Highway. For riders, it is the heart of northern adventures — a place to regroup, refuel, and plan new routes. Skardu 📍 Geo Location: 35.2971° N, 75.6333° E Skardu is the principal city of the Baltistan region, nestled in a high-altitude valley where the Indus River bends through dramatic landscapes. Known as the gateway to some of the world’s highest peaks — including K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum — Skardu has long been a base for mountaineers and explorers. Historically, it was an important trading and cultural center of the old Tibetan-Baltistani kingdom, later coming under Dogra and then Pakistani administration. Today, Skardu is famous for its lakes, deserts, forts, and its role as a launching point for expeditions into the Karakoram. Gilgit–Skardu Road (Through Rugged Karakoram Mountains) The route between Gilgit and Skardu runs through some of the most remote and rugged terrain in Pakistan, following sections of the Indus River and cutting through steep gorges carved over millions of years. These mountains form part of the Karakoram Range, one of the youngest and most dramatic mountain systems on Earth. The road is challenging, often affected by landslides and weather, but rewards travelers with unmatched views of cliffs, rivers, and vast rocky landscapes. Riding this route during daylight reveals textures and colors that truly show the scale and majesty of the region.
