ABLE KIT

The ABLE kit - “Assessment of Basic Literacy in English”, has been designed to provide classroom teachers with a reliable, evidence based assessment tool that will enable them to identify the readers' general and specific basic literacy skills at the end of 4th grade or beginning of 5th grade (assuming that the learners began their English lesson in the3rd grade (at least 2 hours). The ABLE kit comprises two tests: a Screening Test to be administered to the whole class and a Diagnostic Test to be administered individually. The ABLE kit includes the actual tests to be administered as well as a teacher’s copy of the test with accompanying scoring sheets. The tests have been prepared in two versions: one for Hebrew-speaking pupils and another for Arabic-speaking pupils. It is important to note that while the instructions are presented in two different languages, the two versions are otherwise identical. (This is the Digital Hebrew Version). This test is administered to the whole class during a 45-minute lesson. Based on performance on this test, the teacher will be able to identify pupils who appear to have difficulty in acquiring reading in EFL. The teacher then administers the Diagnostic Test to specific pupils in order to identify the specific basic literacy skills that may be responsible for their reading challenges.
