Concerns about rising population numbers have been around for centuries. But a growing area of debate now centres on what view prospective parents might or should take about bringing children into the world. Blythe Pepino, made the headlines in the UK by setting up the BirthStrike protest as ‘a decision not to bear children due to the severity of the ecological crisis’. But controlling reproduction has never solved social problems and denies women’s bodily autonomy. An engaging panel filmed at the Battle of Ideas festival in November 2019, debate what is at stake.
