This album comes from 1982 and a Children's choir known as the Tikondane Kamuchanga Singers or alternately, the Tikondane Singers. This album is the first of two documented albums by this group. I suspect that the recording was sped up for the record. The children sound a little too high pitched to be natural. A little bit of experimentation suggests it was sped up by about 8% as slowing the recording down to that speed makes it sound a lot more natural. I could be wrong though. The recording is the speed original to the record. Not a lot of information is available about this choir outside of what is printed on the album covers of the two known albums. According to the album covers, the group was an age 13 and younger children's choir organized in 1981 by Hix Daniel Chinyimba, a former Malaila Singers member. He is credited as the group's director and songwriter. None of the musicians carried over from the first album to the second one (released the following year in 1983). The group was originally ecumenical (meaning that the membership was open to any Christians), but by the second album, the group is stated to be affiliated with St Mary's Cathloic Church in Mufulira. The second album drops the Kamuchanga from the group's name. Both albums were released on Teal's Songs of Praise label. The first album, (this one), was recorded at Malachite Film Studios. There is another group from Zambia also known as the Tikondane singers. That groups appears to be an adult choir affiliated with St Peter's Catholic Parish in Ndola. It has no relation to the 80's children's choir on this record.
