BIG BASS, Tiny Room! Top 10 Tips For Small Room Subwoofer Sizing and Selection

Fitting BIG BASS in a small room is a challenge, no doubt. But CAN it be done? SHOULD it be done? I've done it, and here are my Top 10 Tips... Vv Click "SHOW MORE" vV "The List", flat response subwoofers that provide game changing bass, and can be used in small rooms. An AVR with good room correction (see below) will make a big difference for small rooms: http://www.subwoofer101.com/best-subw... These are all AVR's that have Audyssey XT32: https://sub101.link/DenonX3300 https://sub101.link/DenonX3400 https://sub101.link/MarantzSR6012 https://sub101.link/DenonX4400 https://sub101.link/MarantzSR7012 https://sub101.link/DenonX6300 https://sub101.link/MarantzSR8012 https://sub101.link/DenonX8500 AVR's with XT32 AND the new IMAX Enhanced DTS format: https://sub101.link/DenonX4500h https://sub101.link/DenonX6500H So to be sure, a bigger room is easier, but I see people being advised to stick with smaller subs, single subs, or not to bother at all in a small room! All of that seems wrong to me, especially given my first hand experience. Part of the reason for the RV project was to see if it could even be done! I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I expected that it was possible. There was a period of dread, when I thought I had really screwed up, finding myself using pillows to find the right bass trap locations in the coach, which helped a little, but also robbed some of the desired, non troubling output. Thankfully, XT32 obliterated the need for bass traps!! This video has been over a year in the making, and truly XT32 room correction was the final piece of the puzzle, making it the #1 tip. Prior to that, I wasn't really thrilled with the results, even if they were FAR better than I expected. XT32 made it sound proper. Conventional wisdom told me that big subs would overpower the room, let alone TWO of them! Blasphemy!! A big AVR? Why, you don't need that much power!! Rabble rabble!! Yet that's what made it work, dual deep bass subs, and an AVR powerful enough to include XT32 in it's feature set. The X2000 had PLENTY of power, just not the right room correction for the job. Another point is that I barely had to adjust the gain on the subwoofers. In the house, I had the left sub at -14 because it was corner loaded, and the right at -11, all depending on my mood, but those were the typical values. In the RV, the values seem to be -13 to -14 on both, depending on my mood. ALMOST THE SAME GAIN!!! FYI, the gain on the PB-4000's have -0 being the loudest, so -13 is louder than -14. Exact same AVR subwoofer levels, so the comparison is correct. One thing is for certain, bass is a weird thing! I found these results to be surprising, and encouraging for those who are not lucky enough to have larger rooms. One last note, I have easily fatigued, tender ears. No problems to report due to the smaller room, which is further good news.
