A liver hemangioma is a benign tumor composed of blood vessels in the liver. It is often discovered incidentally during imaging tests for other conditions and usually does not cause symptoms. When symptoms do occur, they may include pain in the upper right abdomen, feeling full after eating small amounts, nausea, or vomiting. The exact cause is unknown, but liver hemangiomas are more common in women and adults aged 30-50. Diagnosis is typically made through ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI. Most liver hemangiomas do not require treatment and are simply monitored over time. However, if they cause symptoms or complications, surgical removal, embolization, or, rarely, radiation therapy may be considered.
