Liza Lehmann (1862-1918) was an English soprano and composer most well-known for her song cycles and art songs. After studying with the likes of Jenny Lind, she pursued a concert career for an extended period before settling into composing. She was the first president of the Society of Women Musicians as well as a professor at the Guildhall School of Music. This characterful pair of songs based on Rudyard Kipling's texts from The Jungle Book exemplify Lehmann's playful, yet witty and harmonically rich musical style. 00:00 - Introduction 00:12 - 1.
