♦️ Armory Square Prize for South Asian Literature in Translation winner Sana R. Chaudhry discusses her process and craft in a translation masterclass in partnership with Himal Southasian and Open Letter Books on Monday, February 16. The Armory Square Prize for South Asian Literature in Translation’s 2024 winner Sana R. Chaudhry reveals her craft and literary journey translating Pakistani feminist icon Fahmida Riaz’s 2017 Urdu novel Fortress of the Forgotten Ones. Prizes can function not just as recognition but also as infrastructure for translators, and Sana’s translation tale is one that has leaned on literary companionship across languages and flourished in conversations otherwise sidelined by history. Also highlighted is her deep editorial work with Open Letter Books, one of only a handful of publishing houses dedicated to increasing access to world literature for English readers. The conversation with Sana and others focuses on how granular choices can determine the register and cadence of a translated literary work, and how to convey dense cultural information. Submit to the Armory Square Prize by March 15 : armorysv.com/translation-prize Himal Fiction Fest 2026 is seeking original English-language translations of fiction new or old from any Southasian language. For three decades, Himal Southasian has strived to define, nurture, and amplify that voice. ♦️ Read more: https://www.himalmag.com/ ♦️ Support our independent journalism and become a Patron of Himal: https://www.himalmag.com/support-himal Find us on: ♦️ / himalistan ♦️ / himal.southasian ♦️ / himalistan
