The action platformer borrows heavily from an earlier Treasure title, Ronald McDonald's Treasure Land, and could almost be considered a spiritual successor. Dynamite Headdy seems nothing more than Sega's attempt to cash in on the popularity of Nintendo's Kirby on the surface, but the game is so bizarre and entertaining that it's easy to forget it was ever a clone. While the game was and still is critically acclaimed, its obscurity has resulted in Headdy becoming lumped in with the many forgotten subpar platformer mascots, in addition to having much of the game's content altered in its localization to the West. In the same year, the main composer, Katsuhiko Suzuki (also known as NaZo^2 Suzuki) also worked on the release of a soundtrack album, including an arrange and a cover of a song from the opera Carmen that was featured in the game's claymation advertisement on Japanese television. The obscurity of Dynamite Headdy meant that few copies were sold, resulting in its status as a collector's item and ludicrously expensive. A lot of Treasure games have issues regarding documentation due to obscurity, so if you have any sort of interest in their games and are willing to persevere through the frustration, be sure to try them out! [LYRICS] Headdy the Hero (Vocal Arrange Version) lyrics: (taken from CD booklet) Once upon a time, in the peaceful world of toys The puppets and the dolls, we're happy and filled with joy Along came 'Dark Demon King', all evil sort of cad He chose good dolls that he liked, his black magic turned them bad! --(chorus)-- It was such a shame, the evil king had come The toys needed a hero, to save each and every one The appeared great 'Headdy', he was quite a guy His head came off his body, as a weapon it could fly! Good luck Headdy come on, hear the puppets say Dyna-mite hero of the day Fight fight Headdy's alright, hear the dolls all sing come on get that Demon King! Headdy, Headdy, you're our hero! ------------- Headdy is the hero!! All content is property of Sega and Treasure. A moment of silence for my credit card, please.
