5 Smallest Fish in the World

What is the smallest fish in the world? In this video i will be trying to answer that question and many more as i will be going through 5 of the smallest fish in the world. This question is surprisingly hard to answer as there are new species being discovered all the time and there are varying amounts of sexual dimorphism between different species. This nano fish can be found in the peat swamps of Indonesia where they swarm in shoals of around 200 individuals. At one time these tiny fish were known as the smallest vertebrate in the world but this title is now taken by a tiny frog species. Our next small fish is Photocorynus spiniceps. This fish is a deep sea fish and is actually a member of the deep sea anglerfish family. The female of this species isn't remarkably small at all as she's around the same size as a betta. The male Photocorynus spiniceps is around a tenth of her size and spends most of it's life clinging onto the female. The next species of nano fish is the Stout infantfish. This small almost transparent fish is found in shallow reefs and coral reef lagoons. the life of this tiny fish is short and sweet as they only live to around 2 months old. Only 6 specimens have ever been collected as they are quite rare and very hard to spot in the wild. For our next fish we will be heading over to the indo-pacific as we have the Midget Dwarfgoby. This nano fish is found in shallow areas on tropical reefs and has some vibrant colour for such a small fish. There are a few other tiny goby species in this genus but none of them are as small as the midget dwarf goby. Our final small fish is the Dwarf pygmy goby. This tiny goby is found in south east Asia where it normally inhabits muddy areas of mangrove forest. This nano fish is almost transparent and has a few built in natural defences against predators. Although this is one of the smallest fish in the world it is quite famous as it used to be the national fish of the Philippines. The problem with all of these tiny fish is that you're almost certainly never going to see one, as they are very rare and hard to spot in the wild. There are plenty of tiny fish you can find in the aquarium trade and i will be going through 5 of my favourite species of nano fish. These species are the mosquito rasbora, the pea puffer, the celestial pearl danio, the neon dwarf goby and the pygmy corydoras.
