The Law Office of Jonathan E. Fortman www.fortmanlaw.com (314)522-2312 250 St. Catherine St. Florissant, MO 63031 Tisha Thompson: Furlong is one of many former and current AAMCO shop owners named in the class-action lawsuit against the company claiming AAMCO fraudulently induced the shop owners and concealed the fact that the company was unable to support the franchise system, profited by charging illegal undisclosed, inflated fees, and by selling struggling shops to new owners. Jon Fortman: These people are losing everything. Tisha Thompson: Attorney Jon Fortman filed a lawsuit after talking with hundreds of AAMCO shop owners. Jon Fortman: To put somebody in that person and then turn around and make these demands when they’re going broke, that they need to pay all these additional fees is absolute extorsion. Tisha Thompson: In an email to the News4 I-Team, a company spokesman said, “AAMCO believes the claims set forth in the complaint are without merit and intends to defend the matter vigorously”. In previously provided statements from two successful Maryland shops, one saying, “I believe that I have achieved many of my own goals through my own effort and by abiding by the processes of AAMCO”. Tim Montileone: You’re punished if you ask for help. Tisha Thompson: Tim Montileone currently owns three shops in the St. Louis area. He says he joined the lawsuit because AAMCO needs to fix its broken business plan. Tim Montileone: AAMCO is more interested in how they can profit off of the franchisees then they are at helping the franchisees make a profit. Tisha Thompson: He says that AAMCO sold them a shop that had already failed after this previous owner lost over $400,000. Previous Owner: They were more interested in flipping those franchises rather than supporting the franchisees. Tisha Thompson: Hard lessons learned by these businessmen now hoping to get their day in court. Furlong: If you haven’t been in the car business, have no business buying this dream. Tisha Thompson: Against a company they claimed promised them a roadmap to success but ended up driving them into financial ruin. Tisha Thompson, News4 I-Team.
