Having a DHCP server go offline can cause a multitude of disruptions on the network as the number of devices that are unable to obtain an IP address increases. Utilizing this feature, you can avoid downtime by creating pairs of DHCP servers, either in a load balancing scenario, or setting one server up as a hot standby.
