If you are wondering what DLC to bother with, I suggest spending 1 month (no more!) on getting subscription to unlock EVERYTHING. Then spend a little bit of time tinkering with your DLC options (seen as you now have them all) and decide which ones (if any) you enjoy the most. Then cancel your subscription, make a note of the ones you like, wait for a sale, and boom! If I could only keep 2, it would be: 1) Man The Guns (aka MTG) - I call it "Navy DLC" 2) No Step Back (aka NSB) - I call it "Tank DLC" The Aircraft designer DLC (By Blood Alone) I thought I'd use/love the most, but actually I don't (it's a little more fiddly than it needs to be, in terms of equipping Squadrons, who are too eager to not equip themselves with suitable aircraft, just coz it didn't exactly match an older design in some weird way, but perhaps this is more bug than feature, or I'm just a moron - I can't tell)... If I could only have 3 DLC, this would be my 3rd. Other DLC's mostly Focus Tree's - so if you wanna play as a nation with that focus tree, clearly that's the DLC gonna be high priority. They also always individual additions & changes (such as supply systems, sharing equipment between friendly nations, punishing defeated nations, railway guns etc) - all good stuff, but very much secondary to my top 3 reasons for top 3 DLC. I am in no way affiliated with Paradox, so I don't care by a single penny if you buy everything 10x over, or buy nothing and hack into their central servers and spill the code, I just like the game. Actually don't hack the servers, coz I do like the game, and might not be able to log in a while!
