Easy Cut Studio was a great way to supplement a design program to successfully cut vinyl on while on a budget. Before downloading anything I wanted to make sure my 15 year old plotter was even compatible. Right off the bat, Easy Cut Studio has a clear and easy to find list of all compatible machines. The list is actually pretty huge, giving even more ease on the likeliness of this new software find. Once my machine was spotted, I decided to give the demo a shot. Special heads up on the demo version: it’s tough to find, or at first might appear that one is not offered. If you scroll to the bottom of their homepage and click “Download” - this will take you to the free trial version. What this free trial allows is a tester of the design aspect and file play. It’s basically the program for 30 days except for the fact that if you try to cut anything it will display horizontal lines across the document. Downloading this demo version reassured me that my ancient cutter would work before signing up. (I feared that and searched the internet for other people’s opinions or what the trial offer was all about and didn’t find anything which is why I am sharing!! =) So once the program was installed, the next step was to see if the Vinyl Cutter would work… Clicking the “Cutter” tab at the top of the page and then down to “My Cutters” to “Manage Cutters” A box popped up, where I found my machine on the right (Company Brand dropdown) and clicked “Add to List.” I then created a sample document to cut and clicked on “Cutter” at the top of the page. This opened a “Cut Setting” box which allowed me to test the connection and make any preferable changes. ((Being the Demo version, a line will appear across the documents so don’t get too comfortable!)) My next concern with choosing a Vinyl Cutting Software for $60 was if it would allow me to upload and make changes to previously designed images. Having designed many documents on Corel, Easy Cut Studio successfully allowed me to import the images and break them down, update, or make changes to. Click “Import” at the top, find your desired image (pdf), and click open. The “Object” tab at the top of the page will allow you to “Break Apart” the image, or ungrouping, allowing you to pull out individual aspects of the image. This tab also has the option to “Arrange” Align, “Transform” or “Distribute”.
