This video discusses the different types of observational research designs. I talk about the advantages and disadvantages, and why observe instead of doing an experiment. I also elaborate about the differing types such as: Observations without intervention: Naturalistic Observation Physical Traces Archival Data Observation with intervention: Disguised Observation Sampling behaviours Types of sampling: continuous sampling time sampling Quantitative measures Qualitative measures Observer reliability Interobserver reliability Intraobserver reliability Inter-rater reliability problems: Observer effect: the presence of the observer or stimuli could affect behaviour and results. Error of Apprehending: might not be able to see what the other sees. Observer Error: can be caused by factors like inexperience, poorly defined behavioural units, observer drift, tiredness, etc. Observer Bias: tendency to expect something to happen, whether high or low. Error of Recording: poor techniques, equipment, inexperience or mental lapse in observer. Computational Error: caused by inappropriate choice of statistical tests.
