Dr. Ramaswami Balasubramaniam is the founder of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) which is based on the principles of Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (Truth), Seva (Service) and Tyaga (Sacrifice). He is also the founder and chairman of Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM) and is known for his pioneering developmental works with the rural and tribal people in Saragur and Heggadadevana Kote Taluks of Mysuru in Karnataka. Besides he has authored several books like Leadership lessons, I-the citizen and writes extensively about Swami Vivekananda and on Development Issues. Some of his books like I, the Citizen and Voices from the Grassroots, are also used as textbooks in the US. His NPO, SVYM today runs more than 50 projects reaching out to nearly 2 million people across the state of Karnataka and also has centres across USA and UK.
