Raids Over York: Rests Centres and Billeting

Our IPUP placement student, Eleanor Richardson, explores billeting in York during wartime, as well as the rest centres which provided food and shelter for a limited period for those who were left homeless in the immediate aftermath of the raids. Eleanor undertook research into our extensive WWII archive collections at Explore York as part of her Institute of Public Understanding of the Past MA placement. Raids Over York is a collaborative heritage project that commemorates the 80th anniversaries of the 11 air raids over York during the Second World War (1939-45) through new research, interactive media, and a series of public, celebratory events. https://raidsoveryork.co.uk/
