You (groups who are supposed to be distributing aid to refugees) stole from us. Help us. How long, you Arabs, are we going to stay like this? We have suffered a lot and have been hurt. Make us feel secure. Nothing (no aid) is reaching us, don't let anyone steal from us. We are scared, the cold and hunger is killing us, we have no diesel, no electricity, no water to wash our hands, no toilets." 15. Mid of Syrian refugees near their tents 16. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Amena Idlebi, Syrian refugee from Idlib: "I ask them (Arab League foreign ministers meeting in Cairo) to help the children who are drowning in the snow and water, we have no wood, no diesel, no blankets, we have nothing to protect ourselves, we are living with the help of God." 17. Arab League foreign ministers held an emergency meeting in Cairo on Sunday to discuss the increasingly desperate needs of the growing number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Syrians living in tents in a camp in Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley said they do not have enough food, water or fuel. One woman, who did not give her name, said that aid was not reaching the camp because local organisations charged with aid distribution were instead stealing the items and selling them. "Nothing is reaching us, don't let anyone steal from us," she said. Another woman, Amena Idlebi, called on the Arab League to "help the children who are drowning in the snow and water." Both women fled Syria with their families to escape the ongoing civil war, but are now struggling with cold and hunger. Recent stormy weather led to the Litani River bursting its banks and flooding two camps in Lebanon's Bekaa valley. Dozens of Syrian refugees left in search of alternate shelter along with their soaked and muddy belongings. Lebanon's Meteorology Department has said that it expected the bad weather to continue until the end of next week. The Arab League foreign ministers met on Sunday to look into ways of assisting Syrian refugees abroad. Lebanon has appealed for 180 million US dollars from Arab League countries to help it cope with the influx of refugees, Lebanese media reported on Sunday. Lebanon has about 175-thousand Syrian refugees, according to UN figures, although the Lebanese government estimates the number at 200-thousand. Most are in schools and apartments, but a few are staying in tents they pitched near the Syrian border. The UN refugee agency said on Friday that it is concerned about the severe winter conditions faced by about 612-thousand Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt.
