Running Trains with Grandpa

Videos are from 2020, 2021 and 2023. Backstory: I grew up running trains in the basement with Grandpa. It was a highlight of my childhood. Grandpa's layout was a world of its own. Being down there, we watched the trains go around the layout, through the tunnels, over the bridges, under the trees, past the stations, and into our hearts. While his layout was quite different compared to many other layouts (most notably, his layout contained over 80 trains, which made parts of it more like a yard than a scenic railroad), it was still unique and crafted by hand, and was one of Grandpa's personal passions. Grandpa collected trains since the early 1960s, ultimately building over half a dozen layouts over his lifetime. He ran the trains until the end of 2024, when he had a hip replacement and moved into assisted living. This is the first video I'm making to preserve his legacy and remember the wonderful times I had down there. Luckily, I had thought to record a few trips down to the basement. There are many, many times that we ran trains that will be lost to time. However, a few survived, and ultimately will be one of the ways that we remember his legacy.
