As a boots-on-the-ground project engineer and superintendent, Taylor Boileau has seen both the good and the bad sides of Minnesota’s construction industry. “I saw a lot of the amazing things about this industry, about the people that work in it, and about the possibilities it creates. But I also saw the dark side of construction. I saw the harassment, the hazing, the discrimination, and I really found a passion for trying to advocate for people,” Boileau said. Those experiences have inspired Boileau to take her industry advocacy to the next level. She’s the founder of The Blueprint for Change, a newly established, Minnesota-based organization dedicated to making construction jobsites safe, respectful and harassment-free for all workers. Through conferences, toolbox talks, a weekly podcast and more, The Blueprint for Change is on a mission to change the culture of construction “one jobsite at a time.” The organization recently launched a pilot program that offers, among other things, training on worker well-being and safety. In this interview, Boileau talks about The Blueprint for Change, her own experiences in construction, and more.
