This one took ages to make but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It was very tricky to put all my thoughts in a concise way so I ended up rewriting things a number of times. Normally at the end of these I talk about how it stacks up against the other games I have covered at level 1 but I'm honestly not sure I can accurately assess that when it has been so long since I did ds3 and ds1 level 1. At some point I will make an updated version of these videos but probably after I have covered all the souls games. Video Essays: • Video Essays Extra Notes: -you can punish in between that longest Rellana combo but it is the most unsafe looking thing that exploits going into a crouched pose after doing a jump attack. It's one of those things that’s technically possible and is consistent but really doesn't look like it should work and clearly wasn't intentionally designed so I think my point still stands at least for 99% of the playerbase. (Here is the goat pulling it off numerous times in an incredibly long no hit kill: • Rellana, Twin Moon Knight - RL1 NG+7⁺... -you can get a hit in on Bayles arm during his right swipe stalling combo. Similar to the Rellana thing this is something that doesn't feel intentionally designed and almost seems like something they were trying to prevent by making the hurtbox on his right arm start so high up but it is possible to get a hit in with any weapon by strafing the right arm and then doing a jump attack with a very tight turn with small weapons and angling ur light attack up with big weapons. This isn't significant damage so it's basically just to keep up poise which throwing knives were doing anyway so it changes almost nothing. -Midra also has an issue with his phase transition attack which is actually pretty significant but I didn't talk about it because I wanted the section to stay very focused. He can cancel out of it straight into an attack which obviously seems like a bug. A lot of the time even when u do notice that he has cancelled out of it you still cant tell what he's doing because the explosion from the phase transition attack is so bright that it obscures most of his body and head. I don't know exactly how this attack works but I'm fairly certain there is a way to deal with it which either prevents him from cancelling the attack or at least doesn't put you in a position where you are dodging attacks you can't see. I'm going to assume that whatever Scolopendra does is safe so here is his most recent Midra kill to use as an example of how to avoid the cancel • Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame - RL1 N... -If the Metyr section seems noticeably lower effort than the rest of the video that isn't because I phoned it in its because the camera tools don't work in that area of the game for some reason -I remembered after finishing this video that they did actually kind of try the whole duo boss with one combined moveset thing with double ape in sekiro. From looking back at it. It did actually work pretty well but wasn't appreciated for what it was because it was in sekiro which has a combat system even more focused on 1 on 1 fighting and to engage with double ape in a way that made sense it was a lot more spacing, positioning and dodging which the player had probably just spent the last 40 hours being taught to avoid in favour of parrying. It's like towards the back end of sekiros development FROM were wishing they were making a souls game lol.
