Fantasia of City Scenes, for Orchestra (1935) "Urban Scenes Fantasy Overture" was composed by Huang Zi in 1935 as the opening music for the progressive film Urban Scenes (Dūshì Fēngguāng), produced by Lianhua Film Company and directed by Yuan Muzhi. This piece is recognized as the first-ever original film overture composed by a Chinese composer, marking a milestone in the history of Chinese film music. In October 1935, Urban Scenes Fantasy Overture was premiered by the Shanghai Municipal Council Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mario Paci (Mei Baiqi), and was later recorded by Pathé Records.
