DAMN IT!! I tested this coil for days and days and it collapsed the tubes the moment i made a video for YT!! anyways you can see here three clips with the coil working still good I know it sounds idiotic but the sparks are longer than they look on video, they get near 20cm, a lot of the times camera sync cuts the spark I may have forgotten some details, like why it doesn't work good anymore, it popped the fuse because of high current and apparently grid 1 of the tubes was tied to GND, while the rest was at like 2.5kV, the tubes didn't liked this, the idea of the fuse was from a schematic from Jozef Bogin, the dimmer comes from it as well, the fuse is there bcs the PL504 already has a fuse inside, and when that pops you will trash the tube, so to save it you fit a low rating fuse outside About the staccato and interrupter, the interrupter (dimmer) has the most effect at lower powers, when i push the MOT at 210Vac you see little difference turning the knob, but spark length benefits from it anyways... the staccato instead seems to increase spark length by running out the ionization around the sparker from one shot to the other, because, infact, you can see that when i turn the coil to full 50Hz the sparks are way shorter, this because the arc doesn't "puff up" inside the ionization of the previous shot and it can grow away from the coil, there's already a difference between 5Hz and 10Hz You may notice that the coil makes some unwanted shots from time to time, this happens at full powah, also this problem seems to go away more and more after the first times it happens, this may be caused by the cathode that pulls the TRIAC up to 600V, triggering it.... now this is way worse, a tube makes this happen too much, after 180Vac on the MOT it blasts full 50Hz, also, i dunno why, but the coils doesn't seem to output 100% (the tubes were already at ~70% of their power compared to new ones), probably the grid(s) got deformed Another thing about using a MOT on tubes that shouldn't be powered with a voltage so high is that grid 2 sometimes flashover making a pop and a flash inside the tube, this ALSO seems to go away after the first times it happens, probably some sharp points of the grid 2 structure, after flashover, become dull, so that becomes less prone to trigger a discharge, infact before reaching 210Vac on the MOT i had to encounter all of these issues that gradually went away (almost) The schematic is also here:: https://imgur.com/a/G1GXXUo Timeline:: 0:12 Tubes 2:50 Disaster 5:05 Description 10:54 Proper film of the sparks (before disaster) 15:14 Slow motion 15:56 Slowed down slow motion :D 16:32 Schematic
