Attempt on Mt Peechee in Banff NP After reading a recent trip report up Mt Girouard, which pointed out the super tough and lengthy approach, it got me interested in respect to at least knowing the conditions and the approximate location of the parking lot. There aren't many trip reports these days to help with the fresh beta. Started at noon with the slow traffic on HWy1 due to an accident, some cars close to Calgary were causing a long delay, following the gps track for Mt Girouard, and at one point it was clear to me that the chances of summiting were out of options. Besides, this area being in the Banff National park, there are numerous restrictions regarding parking, some closures, etc . As such, at one point during my approach along the drainage, which becomes a creek at some point, requiring zig-zagging, I've decided to go for an approach to one of the several subpeaks of Mt Peechee, just to test out the route. It turns out the fallen logs in the newly grown forest is a formidable obstacle, which was very time consuming and tiring. I ended up on one of the ridges, just before one of the subpeaks, near which I've noticed fresh bear diggings. That made me decide to return at that point, for good reason, considering the very complex descent. Perhaps some other time will attempt Mt Girouard, but it requires a very early start.
