Hi & thanks for watching East Coast Sailing, Im Rob & in todays episode ill be leaving my home port of Woolverstone located in Ipswich and sailing past Harwich & Felixstowe and entering the North Sea. Ill pass Clacton and begin the 58 NM journey heading over the Thames Estuary. Ill be crossing the busy shipping lanes solo, and if you have never done this before ill show you how to keep safe. Ill also include some laws and procedures relating to the Thames Estuary. A lot of people don't know about which could land you a hefty fine. Ill also pass the world war defences the Red Sands Fort, Shivering Sands Towers & The explosive Wreck of SS Richard Montgomery. Ill finally head up the River Medway passing Hoo Island where my sailing adventure started on the Kent coastline. Finally ill explore Chatham marina as well as the Historic Dockyards if you are thinking of visiting on boat. Ill also give you some information about MDL & their new incentive Dock & Discover. Ill leave the boat at Chatham before heading back with the family and picking up the journey the week after where ill head to Faversham round the isle of Sheppey navigating the Swale where i get stuck in the mud 3 times.
