🚂 C&O 614 Restoration Update — January 2026 🚂 Major progress continues on the restoration of Chesapeake & Ohio Steam Locomotive No. 614, with active boiler work underway at Strasburg Rail Road Mechanical Services. This month marks a critical phase of hands-on mechanical renewal focused on long-term safety, compliance, and preservation. Thousands of flexible staybolts are being systematically removed and replaced as part of federally regulated boiler restoration work. These flexible staybolt components are being permanently retired as part of documented boiler restoration work conducted in 2026. Their removal ensures continued safety, regulatory compliance, and the locomotive's long-term preservation as it returns to service under RJD America’s stewardship.
